Gandaki Medical College Teaching Hospital and Research Center Pvt. Ltd. (GMCTHRC), Pokhara was established in 2007 A.D with the aim of imparting quality medical education to the students from different parts of the world. Presently, GMCTHRC is conducting MBBS, BDS,BSc. Nursing, BNS, BSc. MIT, BSc. MLT, BPH and BPharma Program with the affiliation of TU-Institute of Medicine (IOM). We are happy to inform you that the college has been successfully running in its aim of providing quality medical education and care services to the people.

“Gandaki Medical College Teaching Hospital & Research Centre (P) Ltd. (GMC)” is a health educational institution located in Kaski District of Nepal. It deals with a national priority industry for a medical college and teaching hospital. The project is founded on its own land and is purely Nepalese ownership.


The arrangement of infrastructures are made in compliance with the “Guidelines and Infrastructures Directions for Establishment and Operation of Private and Non-government Health Institutions, 2061” published by Ministry of Health and Population, Government of Nepal.

The College will allocate free tuition fees to ten (10%) percent of students nominated by Nepal Government annually. GMC proposes a 750 bedded teaching hospital with all activity of clinical and medical facilities, thus providing excellent health care facilities.

Program Objectives

The MBBS Program enables the learner:

  • To be competent to manage health care,
  • To identify complicated health related problems and
  • To refer patients to the appropriate health institutions.
Curriculum Outline

The curriculum of the MBBS degree of Tribhuvan University incorporates the philosophy by which the Medical Graduates will be competent enough to carry out the clinical, preventive, promotive and administrative roles expected by the society. This curriculum is community oriented, and has integrated teaching/ learning activities that encourage problem based learning. The curriculum has been divided into three phases. The first phase is of two years, the second phase of one year and the third of one and half year duration. On successful completion of the four and half years courses of study, it is mandatory to complete one year of compulsory rotating residential internship before finally graduating and becoming eligible to qualify for registration with the Nepal Medical Council for professional practice.

Course of Study

The Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor in Surgery (MBBS) is the five and half year medical course including one year compulsory rotator internship. The entire MBBS course has been divided into three phases.


First Phase:

During these two years, Community Medicine, Basic Medical Sciences and clinical exposure takes place. At the end, a student must pass all the papers of the first phase to be promoted to the second phase.


EVALUATION

Final examination in community medicine and basic medical sciences takes place at the end of the first and second year. The supplementary examinations shall be held after six weeks from publication of the result of first phase final examination. One must pass second year examinations in a maximum of four attempts. No students shall be promoted to the second phase without passing all the papers of the first phase. In case the candidate does not pass the second year examination in four attempts his/her registration for the course is cancelled

  • (3) . Community Medicine-III (Community Health Lab, Community Diagnosis Field and Oral)
  • (4) . Integrated Basic Medical Sciences Paper-IV (General Concepts, Musculosketal & Neurosensory System)
  • (5) . Clinical Medicine (History taking and Communication Skills)
  • (6) . Integrated Basic Medical Sciences Paper V (RS,CVS and Haemopoietic, GI & Hapatobliary Systems).
  • (7) . Integrated Basic Medical Sciences paper VI (Repro/Endo/Electro & Metabolic Systems).
  • (8) . Integrated Basic Medical Sciences Practical/ oral (Anatomy, Physiology, Pharmacology, Pathology, Bio-chemistry & Microbiology).
  • (9) . Clinical Examination & Communication Skill.

Second Phase:

The second phase is of one year duration in which the students study forensic medicine, community medicine and clinical ward placements with theoretical teaching commences in this phase and helps them to acquire competencies for the third phase of one and a half year.

EVALUATION

The second phase students take final examination in forensic medicine and applied Epidemiology and family health exercise.

Third Phase:

In the third phase, students study all the clinical subjects and a twelve week community placement takes place. Following this, junior internship takes place, during the last six months of rotation.

EVALUATION

The students take the fourth years examination in Eye, ENT, Orthopaedies & community Medicine. At the end of four and half years the students take the final third phase Examination in Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Pediatrics and obstetries & Gynaecology.

  • (5) . Clinical Disciplines: Psychiatry, Dermatology, Dentistry, Radiology, Anaesthesiology, Emergency Medicine & Family Practice.
  • (6) . 4 ½ Internal Medicine: Theory and Clinical/oral.
  • (7) . General Surgery: Theory and Clinical / Oral.
  • (8) . Gynecology and Obstetrics: Theory and Clinical/Oral.
  • (9) . Pediatrics: Theory and Clinical /Oral.
Eligibility

Eligibility conditions for admission to MBBS course are as stipulated by the Tribhuvan University, Nepal. The candidates must have passed intermediate Science/Class XII/10+2 or "A" Level of I. Sc or proficiency certificate in General Science from recognized university of Boards or an equivalent examination of Higher Secondary School level obtaining minimum 60% marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English in aggregate. The student should have passed separately in theory & practical examinations of Physics, Chemistry & Biology. The International candidates have to pass the entrance examination conducted by TU/IOM. The Nepalese students are admitted through joint entrance examination conducted by TU/IOM on merit.

Affiliation & Recognition

Gandaki Medical College is Affiliated by Tribhuvan University, Nepal and has recognised by Nepal Medical Council since 2010 AD.

Degree of Tribhuvan University is recognized in many countries and can practice to their respective countries after their registration to their respective Medical Council.

Further, Medical Council of India (MCI) has recognized the degree of Tribhuvan University. Thus, the students passing from Gandaki Medical College is recognized by MCI, however they have to appear MCI screening test only.
